The Importance of Mental Health Awareness

It’s not just you.

Realizing that everyone, in some way, shape, or form struggles with mental health can be very eye-opening. It’s unfortunate, yet refreshing- that it’s not just you. Just as people talk about re-engaging with their physical health by diet or exercise. People should also be discussing how to re-engage with their mental health and what that can look like for each of us. This is the goal of Better Me Up, to provide insight, encouragement and resources to be a better you.

The difference between physical illness and mental illness is that sometimes there aren’t physical signs you can see in the mirror, reflecting that your mind is not functioning at it’s best. Everyone has good and bad days. For others, it’s much more complex, with hints of trauma, isolation and emotions some may never experience in their lifetime.

Having an awareness to mental health builds empathy within us to better interact and support one another. Simply because someone is able bodied, engaging, and outwardly joyful, doesn’t mean they are 100% themselves internally. To have an understanding and empathy towards mental health needs, we can foster grace as the new social norm.

Until next time,
